Something is Always Faraway #4
Oil, acrylic ink and acrylic paint on cotton canvas.
Something is Always Faraway is a continuous exploration of Astri Stykestad Haukaas’s fascination with both distance and closeness—a tribute to the feelings of longing and separation. Throughout her works, Stykestad Haukaas invites the viewer to slow down and reflect on the sense of yearning for someone or something—a feeling she believes has been diminished in our fast-paced lives.
Her expansive pieces create a sense of vastness, drawing the viewer up to the peak of a mountain to gaze upon an "empty" landscape. Through these abstract works, she seems to ask, "What do you see? Where are we now? Have you been here before? How did it look the last time you were here?"
Stykestad Haukaas reminds us that our imagination is a unique lens through which we view the world. Our internal landscapes—shaped, carved, and molded by our experiences—color our perceptions. Through her art, Stykestad Haukaas emphasizes that while we all look at the same scene, each of us sees something different.

“My subject matter is nature influenced by subjective memories. I love thinking about how humans make deep, personal relations with nature - places, mountains, lakes, on earth and in space.”
About the Artist
Astri Styrkestad Haukaas
