Grass is Greener
Watercolor on Cream Stonehenge Hotpress 100% Cotton Paper
Alarah Gee’s latest series of paintings on paper distills the fundamentals of abstraction into a quiet but potent visual language. Working primarily in ink, Gee explores the dynamic interplay of opposites—light and dark, soft and sharp, texture and flatness. These tensions are not resolved but carefully calibrated, creating a sense of equilibrium that feels both intuitive and deliberate. Each composition invites the viewer into a spatial dialogue where gesture and restraint coexist.
Departing from the structured color theory of her formal training, Gee charts a more personal and experimental path. Her use of color becomes a means of emotional calibration rather than formulaic design, with each hue and shape selected to evoke balance rather than follow rule. Through this process, Gee’s paintings evoke a quiet intensity, channeling modernist influences while pushing toward something more intimate and searching. These are works that reward stillness, offering an ever-shifting dialogue between material, memory, and perception.

BOBBY BERK ON ALARAH GEE
“I've always been drawn to graphic works of art that play with lines and shapes. It's amazing the complexity that can exist within just a few simple strokes.”
