Fresh stones in my hand/old water in my pocket #6

Painting
$ 5,000

Acrylics and oil on cotton canvas

In her work, Astri Stykestad Haukaas works with the tension between distance and proximity to create something that feels familiar, somehow. In this new series, the paintings coalesced as a continuous conversation between the materials and the artist. The works, inspired by a collection of stones on display in her studio and the memories of places in nature that are always present for her, include water from old paintings to start the new ones.

In her own words:

I walk upstream or I go with the flow
Old water in my pocket
Fresh stones in my hand
Old stones in my shoes
Fresh water in my face

Size: 71 x 51 inches

“My subject matter is nature influenced by subjective memories. I love thinking about how humans make deep, personal relations with nature - places, mountains, lakes, on earth and in space.”

About the Artist

Astri Styrkestad Haukaas

Abstract painter and founder of Danish artspace KVIT, Astri Styrkestad Haukaas's expressive paintings draw their colors and tones from nature.
