Tadahiro Gunji

Collectivity 059

$ 1500
  • 20 x 13 inches | Original Work

Resin coatings on wood panels | 2020

Gunji’s Collectivity series of wall sculptures examines the relationship between human nature and mother nature. Using brightly colored plastic resin over wood, Gunji uses these materials as metaphors; wood representing the natural world, layered in the bold colored plastic of capitalism. A few of the works in this series draw inspiration from the heads of birds, as Gunji examines the vibrant colors found in nature, then attempts to translate and abstract them through the work. Just as he can never truly replicate the natural world, capitalism can never fully exist in harmony with nature.

About The Artist

Tadahiro Gunji

Multi-media artist Tadahiro Gunji's Collectivity series focuses around his use of organic lines formed by gaps between the separate pieces, and acknowledge the existence of invisible boundaries. The gaps also represent the relationship between space and matter; each part of the work trying to remind us of the complexity and composition of all particles. Select public collections include: The Museum of Modern Art (Toyama), Rad Hourani Art Foundation, and Italy Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa.
