You Are Fluffy, I Am Fluffy, We All Are Fluffy
Pencil and Paper Collage on Paper
Cocooning is a contemplative and ongoing series of works on paper by Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck, first initiated in 2011. Rooted in daily practice, the series explores Hoffbeck's affinity with colour and its ability to communicate positive emotion. Through delicate or rough textures and soft, organic forms, Cocooning invites viewers into intimate spaces of comfort, introspection, and emotional mending. Each work emerges from a thoughtful process: daily observations of nature, followed by the creation of small collages in complementary tones, and finally, the development of carefully considered artworks. Echoing themes of domestic ritual, ecological sensitivity, and slo wness, the series embodies a gentle yet purposeful retreat into quiet and care. Hoffbeck also uses Cocooning pieces as color references to create her larger works.

“Contemporary cultures are often extremely fast and ever-changing. My practice engages with slower tasks which demand commitment and help us to focus our attention. In my paintings, I depict activities such as growing plants and preparing and sharing tea, which also are parts of my daily life.”
