Warmth
Mixed media collage on paper
In Tagada Hoffbeck's series Safe Space, she paints women holding teacups in order to emphasize the daily action and ritual of sharing tea as a space created for comfort. In these moments of painting her subjects she spoke in depth to the women about social and ecological subjects they were passionate about. These original works on paper mark an evolution in Tagada Hoffbeck’s practice as she continues the series on canvas which are frequently accompanied by audio recordings.

“Contemporary cultures are often extremely fast and ever-changing. My practice engages with slower tasks which demand commitment and help us to focus our attention. In my paintings, I depict activities such as growing plants and preparing and sharing tea, which also are parts of my daily life.”
