DESCRIPTION
Oil on canvas | 2020
Continuing his approach to painting as a means to create a sense of place, Tucker’s paintings as part of his Openings series function as portals into surreal constructed landscapes. By playing with perspective and the picture plane, Tucker draws the viewer in, collapsing space and oscillating between depth and surface as it is revealed that he has depicted a painting within a painting. As with the works in his Meta-Paintings series, these paintings transcend the content of the imagery and become paintings about painting and the experience of presence, looking, and seeing.

“I like the idea of entangling nature with a sense of escapism, meditation, surrealism and the sublime.”
