DESCRIPTION
Archival ink on museum-quality cotton rag paper | 2021
After two years of living through fantasy, Culver's new series "Mignardises" (otherwise known as Petit Four) is a vibrant and coquetteish escape. Inspired by Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette and the sport of pastry baking, these pieces are sweet, yet restless. with forms that are romatically-hued with limbs and leaves reaching, these pieces symbolize the dance of a dream and a wish to expand.
Culver's hopes are that these works bring brightness and break stagnant feelings in her true abstract and playful forms.

“...remain true to myself. To make work that is undeniably me and uniquely my own. I hope to make things that move people, but if I make work just for others without putting myself in it, it won’t carry.”

MARIANA VELASQUEZ ON MARLEIGH CULVER
“At first glance I saw a deconstructed still life. Then as I observe more I connect with the chaotic balance and the neutrality in color leaves the mind open wide to fill in the colors.".
