Before Memories are Made I
Acrylic, graphite, pastel and salt on cotton sheet
In his latest collection, Brian Rattiner blurs the boundaries between external landscape and internal emotion, allowing forms to emerge that feel both familiar and unplaceable. As impressions of landscape dissolve, their essence is distilled into color, gesture, and a sense of shifting atmosphere. His paintings release sensory associations tied to memory and place, creating open-ended spaces where viewers can find their own resonances. Guided by melody and movement, Rattiner's process imparts a quiet rhythm to each work, giving shape to the subtle energy of a moment.
Painted on cotton sheets—a material choice first adopted during travel—the works carry a gentle softness and intimacy, reinforcing the dreamlike quality that threads through the series. Across these paintings, Rattiner honors presence itself, elevating the quiet details that shape memory, perception, and emotional experience.

"Across the series, presence remains the guiding thread. Each piece responds to a particular moment whether encountered in sound, landscape or daily routine, and highlights the significance of small, often overlooked details."
