Archival ink on museum-quality cotton rag paper
In this series, Laura Burke elaborates on her practice of drawing imagined still lifes. Illustrations of objects such as cups, vases, flowers, and tables fill up much more of the frame—hence the series’ name “Full to the Brim.” Each work contains a unique world that sits just within the paper’s periphery. Though the compositions appear spontaneous, Burke methodically built up each drawing with colored pencil, graphite, and oil pastel to achieve a dense yet balanced look.

“I view the objects I draw as characters in a scene that the viewer is seeing by accident. They’re lovers and friends, playing out intimate moments that I hope can be related to.”
