Rest and Rise Again
Acrylic and Oil Pastel on Canvas
Giorgia Bel’s work reflects a meditation on the rhythms of life, the passage of time, and the quiet certainty found in nature and family. Drawing inspiration from the cycles of the earth, her practice considers growth, change, and tenderness as inseparable from daily life, celebrating both its simplicity and its fullness. Through her paintings, Bel explores the calm and holiness that coexist with chaos, capturing the subtle beauty of living things and the unfolding of human connection. In this interplay between the natural world and personal experience, her work finds purpose in the ongoing cycle of becoming.
In the Artist's Own Words:
“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.” — Henry David Thoreau
As I rise and lie down with each passing day—seasons folding into one another, my spring feeling like a midsummer daydream—I return to these words. They remind me of life’s beauty: its fullness, its simplicity, its extravagance, all at once.
At times, I feel overwhelmed. There is chaos within and around us. And yet, there is also the calmest night, a quiet holiness, warmth, and kindness. The earth remains a constant reminder of the gift of life. It is born, it grows, it gives—and when its time comes, it returns to where it began.
What mirrors this significance for me is my family—the one I am building, the one still unfolding. With each passing day, the seasons of our own becoming reveal themselves. There is growth, change, tenderness, and awe. I am humbled by the glory of living things—the earth and all its inhabitants.
And so I resign myself to the influence of the earth. It knows its purpose and fulfills it with quiet certainty. In the growth and becoming of this family, I find my own.
This, too, is purpose.

About the Artist
Giorgia Bel
Giorgia Bel is a self-taught artist who began painting in 2015 during a period of illness. What began as a means of coping became a profound passion. An Interior Design and Color graduate, Bel uses color and texture to create depth. Her focus is on imagined and seen landscapes, undersea-scapes and the human form.
Bel’s practice is grounded in memory, imagination and a tender, melancholic connection to place. Rendered in milky, dirtied-down color and suffused with the tones of dawn to dusk—the works evoke a drenched landscape, bursting with life and vitality. With skeletal trees and Rothko-like washes, her landscapes blend the known and imagined, guided by a philosophy of art as medicine.
