Archival ink on museum-quality cotton rag paper

A continuation of her MalaNazar series, Ilka Kramer created Nouveau Monde in the same method of constructing, creating an architecture made of the remains and debris of buildings that opens onto vast, arid, uninhabited landscapes. Across the works, there is calm and emptiness, the space of all possibilities, and the space to connect to the layers of invisible energies. The images open up to the possibility of reconciliation with ourselves and with the earth.

About our custom frames

“In meditation, the awareness of space can bring me into the here and now. By creating pictures about the notions of space, sometimes I arrive at that same state of presence.”

About the Artist

Ilka Kramer

Kramer photographs her carefully constructed dioramas to create images that walk the edge of the uncanny and the real. Influenced by both architecture and theater, Kramer unpacks the relationship between nature and artifice. Notable collections include Centre International pour la Photography, China.
