Look How Far We've Come, Are We There Yet? a new series by Artist Michael DeSutter, asks the titular and contemplative question: Where has life taken us?

The series is born through a childlike reflection of where life has taken the artist versus where it began. Using materials from 1940s LIFE and Fortune Magazines, DeSutter uses medium as both an exploration of nostalgia, reminiscing on early memories of sitting with his grandfather in his office, and process, using a vintage construction representing arts and crafts in his early years with his grandmother at the dining table.

“I feel like I’m a bit of a broken record, but like most of my work I see these as a continuation in celebrating the life I’m making for myself... I think the little boy on the farm would be proud of us.”

“It’s important to take first steps even if you’re unsure of what you’re doing or how it will go, you’ll learn from them and that’s something you’ll be able to take with you the rest of your life.”

BOBBY BERK ON MICHAEL DESUTTER

“From a distance, this piece feels quite simple and straightforward. But when you look up close, it's a complex and really engaging work that has a lot of layers to it.”
