Just Beyond The Open Door
Stoneware and glaze
In her new collection, Sasha Court approaches ceramics as a meditation on form, feeling, and presence. Each vessel emerges through a quiet, intuitive process, guided by rhythm, attention, and a search for harmony between shape and surface. Soft contours meet matte, textured finishes, while structural weight is balanced by subtle imperfections, creating objects that hold both volume and emotional resonance. Finger marks, asymmetries, and warps are intentionally preserved, allowing the traces of making to remain visible as evidence of care, presence, and human touch.
Court’s work dwells in dualities—strength and fragility, clarity and ambiguity, containment and release—inviting viewers into a slow, intimate encounter. The vessels do not demand immediate understanding; instead, they encourage closeness, contemplation, and touch. In their stillness, they offer a space for feeling and reflection, exploring beauty as a form of truth. Through these quiet companions, Court presents an offering: a chance to remain open, present, and receptive in a world that often asks us to close.

About the Artist
Sasha Court
Sasha Court is a contemporary ceramic artist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, whose work delves into the profound dualities of human experience. Her ceramics are a meditation on themes such as love and loss, beauty and imperfection, and the interplay between joy and sorrow.
Court handcrafts voluminous stoneware vessels that serve as canvases for her expressive glaze work. Her approach is deeply intuitive, allowing each piece to evolve organically. Her ceramics invite viewers to pause, reflect, and find beauty in imperfection, embodying a harmonious blend of structure and spontaneity.
Court's work was included in the September 2023 edition of the1000 Vases Exhibition in Paris, France and in May 2024 at Rhett Baruch Gallery in Los Angeles.
