Q&A:
What inspires you to collect the work of emerging artists?
I’m inspired to collect work from emerging artists because I love discovering fresh talent and supporting their creative journey. It’s exciting to be part of their growth and to bring new, bold ideas into my collection.
What is your earliest memory of art, and what led you to start collecting it?
My earliest memory of art is tied to a deeply personal moment when my granny passed away and I was given some of the pieces she had painted. Those artworks became more than just keepsakes; they were a connection to her, a way to hold onto her creativity and spirit. That experience sparked my love for art and led me to start collecting. Each piece I add to my collection feels like I’m honoring her legacy, keeping that bond alive, and celebrating the beauty she saw in the world.
How has the sentimentality of your collection evolved over time?
The sentimentality of my collection has deepened over time because I’ve become more intentional about the pieces I choose. I now only bring art into my space that feels right on an energetic level, ensuring that each piece resonates with me emotionally and spiritually. This approach has made my collection not just a visual experience, but a reflection of the energy and atmosphere I want to cultivate in my life.
Is there a particular type of art you collect?
I tend to collect more photography, paintings, and hand drawings from my children. These types of art resonate with me the most, as they capture both the world around me and the personal moments that mean the most to me.
Why would you recommend Tappan to someone looking for art?
Tappan is a very accessible and inspirational source for anyone looking for art because they offer a curated selection of emerging and established artists, making it easier to discover unique and meaningful pieces that resonate on a personal level. Tappan also provides detailed stories and insights about the artists and their work, which helps buyers connect more deeply with the art they choose. Where and when do you feel the most creative?
I feel the most creative when I’m playing with my kids or getting lost in nature—whether it’s foraging for flowers, gardening, or taking a nature walk in Topanga Canyon. These moments allow me to connect with my surroundings and inspire new ideas.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from a variety of sources, including music, reading, and nature. Music fuels my emotions and sets the tone for creative thinking, while reading opens up new perspectives and ideas. Nature provides a grounding force, helping me reconnect with the world around me. Additionally, I find immense inspiration in the simple joy of getting lost in new projects, where the process of exploration often leads to unexpected discoveries and creative breakthroughs.
