Pales the Sky
Indigo dye on stitched linen
This collection of work by Maureen Meyer explores themes of movement, memory, and material transformation through an intuitive, process-driven practice. Working with indigo dye and earth pigments, Meyer begins each piece through experimental fabric processes that incorporate resist dyeing, painting, and natural impressions drawn from flora and the surrounding environment. These gestures leave traces of lived experience and organic memory embedded within the material itself. The resulting fabrics are then draped and stitched, emphasizing their inherent textures and fluidity while introducing a sculptural dimension that balances delicacy, structure, and the quiet presence of the handmade.

About the Artist
Maureen Meyer
Maureen Meyer is a visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York whose practice explores materiality, memory, and process through painting, textile, and dye-based works. She received a degree in Graphic Design from The Pennsylvania State University and has held design positions at Calvin Klein and Visionaire/V Magazine, later co-founding the women’s clothing line Flowers of Romance. Her background in fashion and textile design continues to inform her artistic practice through an emphasis on surface, structure, and material experimentation.
Meyer’s ongoing exploration of indigo dye began while studying at the Women’s Studio Workshop, where she developed a deeper relationship to natural pigments and process-based techniques. Her work has been exhibited with Young Space at Standard Projects, Alfa Gallery, The Painting Center, Chesterfield Gallery, The Wassaic Project, NURTUREart, and Aqua Art, among others. Her work has also been featured in ArtMaze, Dwell, and Maake Magazine.
