Manantial 17
Pure pigment on cotton and linen canvas
In her Manantial series, Carla Cascales Alimbau returns to the elemental. Using pure pigments mixed with water on raw linen, each painting unfolds as a collaboration between artist and material—guided not by control, but by intuition. The process is one of surrender, allowing color to bleed, pool, and settle in its own time. Mineral tones surface slowly, echoing the textures and fluidity of the natural world.
Throughout her entire practice, nature is not only a subject but a method and philosophy. Cascales draws from its quiet rhythms, raw forms, and sense of balance to create works that honor imperfection, unpredictability, and the quiet force of change. Standing before them, one is reminded of César Manrique’s rebuke to Walt Whitman: “Shame on you for not resembling nature!” In Cascales’ hands, painting becomes a reverent gesture toward that ideal—rooted, patient, and beautifully uncontained.
