Late Afternoons and Early Evenings VIII
Paper Collage on Paper
In this series of 12 works — 9 new and 3 from 2021 — OVSKA celebrates the magic of the liminal—late afternoons and early evenings, and the transition of summer to fall.
The collages featured in this collection predominantly consist of cut paper, sourced from vibrant theater leaflets as well as vintage Polish audio postcard sleeves dating from the 1960s to the 1980s, bearing traces of imperfections and stains. The incorporation of vivid, layered colors adds depth and dimension to the artworks. Abstract in nature, the circular shapes within these pieces can evoke images of flowers, the radiant sun, or the tranquil moon.
The three pieces of art from 2021 hold a special place in OVSKA’s personal journey, serving as a constant reminder to treat herself with kindness, to express her thoughts openly, and to vocalize her opinions, even if it occasionally requires her to be forthright.

“By appreciating the ephemeral moments from the past I pieced together paper cuttings which already carry a history and connected those fragments into a whole.”
About the Artist
OVSKA
Berlin-based Polish artist OVSKA combines paper cuts of different ages, shapes, and structures including recycled materials to create unique abstract compositions. By memorizing excitement, closeness, touch and scents she chooses those fragile scraps of material reality and connects them with appreciation until the universal meaning suddenly emerges from the flat surface.
