Dorothea Dejonckheere’s practice is rooted in the idea of “less is more, with just a little more,” balancing simplicity and restraint with subtle complexity. Drawn to calm, balance, and visual order, she works with color, layering, movement, and nuanced detail to create compositions that feel considered without becoming overly controlled. Rather than reducing each work to its most minimal form, Dejonckheere preserves moments of tension, imperfection, and spontaneity, allowing the paintings to retain a sense of energy and life. Through this process, painting becomes a way of creating the clarity and equilibrium she seeks within the world around her.

About the Artist
Dorothea Dejonckheere
Dorothea Dejonckheere is a Belgian abstract artist from West Flanders, currently based in Antwerp. She holds a Master’s degree in Free Graphics from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, where she developed a sustained interest in layering, texture, and emotional expression. Her practice explores the space between control and chaos, translating everyday experiences and internal states into abstract compositions. Working through layers of color, movement, and texture, Dejonckheere builds paintings that focus less on depicting a specific moment than on capturing the impression it leaves behind. Her work considers how memory and emotion can be distilled into visual form, creating compositions that balance structure with spontaneity and restraint with feeling.
