In her new series, Jeanette Getrost explores the threshold between memory, nature, and physical form, drawing on the seasonal transition of autumn as both a symbolic and deeply personal point of return. Born in October and recently settled into a new home and studio in Ojai, Getrost reflects on a landscape that has held significance for her since childhood. The works emerge from this sense of homecoming, where past and present begin to overlap and place becomes a vessel for memory, inheritance, and renewal.
Centered on the idea of the thinning of the veil, the series revisits recurring elements within Getrost’s practice, including Victorian dress, vintage linens and handkerchiefs, dreamlike imagery, shifting cloudscapes, and expansive topographies. Personal relics appear suspended against open skies and rooted landscapes, giving form to quiet encounters that are felt more than seen. Works such as This Goes On, West Wind, and Honestly I’m Open reflect a state of receptivity and transition, marking a moment of settling into place, honoring ancestral presence, and embracing the continuity of returning to oneself.

Jeanette Getrost
Jeanette Getrost is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice began in fashion illustration, where her classical approach to figure drawing and vintage fashion aesthetics brought a timeless sensibility to contemporary design. Her distinctive style and technical precision led to collaborations with leading fashion houses including Chanel, Dior, and Fendi, earning her recognition as one of Vogue’s most sought-after illustrators.
Predominantly self-taught and driven by an instinctive curiosity, Getrost has since expanded her creative practice to include oil painting, creative direction, and filmmaking. Her evolution reflects a deep commitment to artistic exploration and a fluid engagement with form, narrative, and visual culture.
