Arran Rahimian’s practice explores the interplay between intuitive mark-making and the deliberate construction of form and space. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Rahimian is particularly attuned to its textures, shifting light, and gradual transformations — from the erosion of a hillside to the worn surface of an everyday object. These observations inform paintings that balance serenity with movement, translating the subtle rhythms and imperfections of the surrounding environment through gesture, texture, and composition.

Rahimian approaches each painting as a process of discovery, allowing the work to evolve organically rather than toward a predetermined outcome. Patience, spontaneity, and restraint are central to this process, as are the unexpected changes that emerge through material and time. Working across linen, canvas, and other surfaces, Rahimian considers the support itself an integral part of each composition, responding intuitively to its particular qualities.
