STATEMENT
Multi-disciplinary artist Jeff Kraus's practice centers on painting, photography, and printmaking. Kraus’s approach is immediate, compulsive, and rhythmically expressive, marked by spontaneous gestures dragged, scratched, and pressed into surfaces. This performative mark-making animates textured environments populated by eroded, quasi-architectural fragments that vibrate between presence and decay. These hazy, fragmented landscapes are deeply rooted in personal photography, transforming intimate memories in to dreamlike compositions that explore the tension between nature and technology, memory and transformation, permanence and impermanence.
Blending digital and physical processes, Kraus creates immersive, atmospheric works that hover between transience and permanence. His practice is often grounded in specific locations critical to the making of the work, evoking a nostalgic yet corporeal awareness in the viewer, holding them in the immediacy of experience while mapping distant, unplaceable terrains.
Kraus has been featured in Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, and Emergent Magazine.
