Mary Phillips | Collector Profile
Mary Phillips, founder of m.ph beauty and Highlight Artist Agency, brings the same intuitive, skin-first approach that defines her career into the way she collects art. With over two decades in the beauty industry, she is known for creating sculpted, luminous looks that feel both modern and effortless—an ethos that carries through to her art collection. Drawing inspiration from travel, architecture, fashion, photography, and the subtle tones and textures of nature, Phillips gravitates toward works that feel expressive, layered, and intentional. Her West Hollywood home, thoughtfully designed in collaboration with Mary Jaramillo Design, reflects this sensibility, balancing instinct with curation and featuring works by Tappan artists Ali Beletic, Brittany Ferns and Bart O'Reilly. For Phillips, collecting is deeply personal—an opportunity to live with work that resonates while supporting emerging artists at meaningful moments in their practice.

What inspires you to collect the work of emerging artists?
There’s something incredibly powerful about supporting artists at an early stage in their journey. Emerging artists bring a rawness and authenticity that feels exciting. Their work often reflects a strong point of view and collecting it feels like participating in a moment, capturing creativity before it evolves while helping that artist continue to grow.
Why would you recommend Tappan to someone looking for art?
I love Tappan because it makes discovering art feel approachable and deeply personal. Tappan introduces you to emerging artists whose work feels fresh and meaningful, while also offering guidance that helps you connect with pieces that truly resonate. It’s not about collecting art for trends; it’s about finding work that speaks to you and becomes part of your story.
