DESCRIPTION

Mechanical pencil, graphite powder on paper Drawing based on initial breast body print | 2022

The primary medium in Eriko Tsogo’s Wrong Woman series isn’t charcoal — it’s her body. The artist creates body print drawings, drawing heavily on guidance by her ancestor spirits to create the esoteric work. Beginning with a chalk body print, the works grow into moments of resistance and reappropriation, reclamation and resignation — always expertly balancing the eternal struggle between control and the subconscious. Thematic inspiration was drawn from the artist’s longing for home and the tension between that static belonging and finding home in motion and displacement.
