Wood, rattan Wood, rattan and linen thread.

Carla Cascales Alimbau explores the concept of metamorphosis through the delicate structure of the chrysalid. A range of materials can be used in order to create these amazing structures, from extensive silk threads to natural fibers. The artist works with natural wood pieces assembled with long delicate linen threads to create these mobile sculptures.

Chrysalids are a reminder of the importance of finding retreat spaces, particularly in times when people live faster than ever. They emphasize the value of quiet places and refuges, spots where we can ask ourselves who we are and where we want to go. In a world that sprints forward, this kinetic sculpture is an invitation to stop and think, giving us a place for tranquility.

The artist presents the notion of refuge as an opportunity, a moment of deviation. Its slow movement invites us to contemplation, letting us take a moment to appreciate its gentle hypnotic circles. Its motion encourages us to respect the cycles of nature, giving the right time and space for transformation.

“We need to accept that time passes by and consider it an element of beauty. Showing our scars make us stronger. All these concepts about being in harmony with life is what I try to communicate in my work.”
