STATEMENT
“I unearthed my preferred way of making whilst working remotely in a makeshift studio space. Beginning to hand build coiled objects with different clay bodies, I found the technique incredibly freeing. During my ceramic studies in Bath, I was revisiting themes explored within my illustration undergrad. Picking up where I left off inspired the development of a unique framework, the framework of the theater. I like to refer to my clay objects as theater props that I paint and direct on stage. Stage sets and natural landscapes inspire my painting process and approaches to installation. I document my surroundings both through sketching by hand and digitally. These visuals are used in my studio as guides for painting my raw clay objects. I strive to achieve vibrancy in my final outputs, using a mixture of underglazes and slips to paint with. Decorating and firing the clay surface I describe as an ongoing experiment.”
