Claire Oswalt is an Austin based artist whose work spans various disciplines including drawing, painting, and sculpture. After working solely with textiles for many years, Oswalt returned to fine art, redirecting focus to minimal compositions in watercolor. Antithetical to her older, more rigorous and representational practice, her current work relies on “the energy behind quick decisions, and the ruthlessness to pair the work down to the essential.” She seeks to juxtapose spontaneity with restraint, dynamic with static, until reaching a harmonious form, largely worked over, yet clear in its intention to never show it. Oswalt's work has shown in Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Austin, Marfa, and most recently at Johanssen Gallery in Berlin in September 2017.
