Michael DeSutter | The Lines In My Head
With the name of this body of work, “The Lines In My Head,” DeSutter pays tribute to Robert Frank’s “The Lines of My Hand” a turning point for Frank’s work when he began to focus more inwardly and explore past memories. Frank’s work has always been a strong influence for DeSutter, particularly his raw form of expression that supersedes any pursuit of perfection.
This body of work is about finding beauty in life lived. An examination of the space the mind occupies as it traverses time. And a celebration of the memories made as a reminder to continually seek presence.
As a nod to the nature of collecting and cataloguing memories. The artist has tiled together pages from vintage stamp albums, similar to the one his grandfather collected stamps in as a child, to create the base sheet of paper for all works.
