Abel Beyene
Painting
b. 1994, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Abel Beyene is a contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice examines identity, memory, and cultural heritage through richly layered figurative works. Combining acrylic paint with geometric textile collage, Beyene incorporates traditional fabrics into his compositions, creating tactile surfaces that move between portraiture and abstraction while drawing on the visual language of contemporary African life. Grounded in the stories of everyday people, his paintings explore belonging, resilience, and collective memory. Beyene has exhibited internationally, including in Spain and London, where his distinctive approach to material and narrative continues to gain recognition.
