DESCRIPTION
Paint on canvas with aluminium frame | 2021
In his most recent series, Chiswell explores the inconsistencies between meaning and intent. Purposefully misdirecting the viewer’s immediate interpretations and assumptions, he employs the use of asemic writing. Chiswell demonstrates this in both painting and screen-printing form, connecting his newest and previous works through a continuation of language. The common theme across the works in this series is Chiswell’s use of process-driven repetition to compliment the nature of his script. The repetition seen in the screen-printed works echoes the repetitiveness of language. The painted works in this series visually abstract “meaning” through a new language of gridding, cropping, and sizing, offering, and once more, an organic repetition across the entire series.
