Monoprint mixed with hand painted sections, oil and acrylics on Japanese washi KOZO paper | 2021
This series of sensual prints and paintings from multimedia artist Ewelina Skowronska draws from social attitudes towards women throughout history and across the globe, and centers on the idea that both nature and our bodies are oriented towards finding balance—if only we tuned into those voices from the past. Although mythological, religious, and cultural narratives of the female form—such as that of shamans and witches—are heavily burdened with fear, Skowrońska seeks to give them new life through her work—embracing the eroticism that once made them outcasts. This new series, Voices From The Inside, challenges to viewer to see those figures as symbols of liberated women and indeed today’s feminist icons.
