Mixed media on cotton canvas | 2020

In Tagada Hoffbeck's series of paintings, “Safe Space,” she depicts tightly cropped compositions of women holding teacups to emphasize the intimacy of the daily action and ritual of sharing tea as a space created for comfort. While painting her subjects, she spoke in depth to the women about social and ecological issues they are passionate about. The works in this series are accompanied by three-minute audio monologues, narrated by their subjects. Rahel’s recording for this work can be found here.
