DESCRIPTION

Acrylic on wood panel | 2019

Created in 2015, these works by Caflisch reflect a different phase of his practice in which his work was heavier, dirtier and harsher in terms of the materials he used. Using glue, painter’s tape and motor oil, Caflisch took these nontraditional materials to canvas in way of expressing that he would not be bound to any medium. The use of color here was also one of his first explorations in not being bound to his more well-known neutral palette at the time. This evolution would lead to much larger works that explore color theory.

Across all disciplines, Caflisch's work explores the beauty of raw materials and is personified by bold linear and organic forms, interspersed by a graphic use of color.
