DESCRIPTION
Sumi ink on Stonehenge 250gsm paper | 2021
In this series of ink drawings, Alarah Gee experiments with the constructive and textural behaviors of color in spatial compositions. This plays out in a variety of ways: the opposition of light and dark, juxtaposition between textures and color temperatures, pure colors versus diluted colors, and the effects of all these aspects overlapping one another. Venturing away from her education in traditional color theory, Gee tries to find her own sense of visual equilibrium by balancing abstract forms and color contrasts.
