As its name implies, Caflisch’s collection “Apples and Oranges” centers around the idea of everything considered to be largely the same. With this in mind, the artist asks the viewer to stop, analyze, and seek elements of individuality. In terms of their physicality, this is also reflected by the artist’s method of underpainting the black coat with red, orange, and garnet: The surface belies what’s underneath, what will only be revealed over time through wear and tear.
