Meaning of Life

Watercolor on paper | 2015
These original works by Shibuya capture her iconic style of tranquil watercolor painting that is meant to be viewed as a meditation; a space to capture the energy between expression and canvas. The artist writes poems as a way to express the motivation and purpose of the works she creates. Below are her writings about this series, “Lost + Found”:
At one point, we have all been lost —
questioning our very existence;
the meaning of life.
But, through different life experiences,
we gain insights into unknown destinies,
some visions realized,
others actualized through various steps,
one leading to the next,
unraveling a story
one could not have fathomed.
Entering into a depth,
we find ourselves,
tucked away bewildered
to what happened prior.
glorious insights abound.
Once again freedom reins,
sighs of relief, we can breathe.
A new beginning awaits,
life is found, once again.
