DESCRIPTION
Watercolor, acrylic, cotton | 2018
These new artworks are influenced by Teschner’s experiences in Yucatan and Havana. Teschner’s relationship to color is more visceral than simply painting from the shelf. Her sculpturally informed palettes are born from the discovery of new architectural materials and surfaces.
Throughout her travels the artist found architecture in various states of ruin and repair, from the excavation of ancient Mayan architecture from beneath forest growth, to the rough stones of city walls covered with new plaster. Her perception of the solidity of buildings was challenged by rising facades of the Yucatan city of Merida, the ancient pyramids of Mexico and parts of Havana, Cuba ravaged by weather, time and neglect.
