Lithography crayon on handmade paper | 2020
How can one establish a sense of freedom during quarantine? In the series, “Astral Projection Fantasies Within The Mundanity of Quarantine,” Helen Rebekah Garber creatively answers this question.
During the past year, Garber was eager for life to return back to normal. Like many, her world felt smaller and her daily routine seemed monotonous. Compelled to free herself from immediate boundaries, Garber created a body of work that alludes to the farthest reaches of the universe.
Each “Infinity World” is an imaginary map that references the infinite universe and all the possibilities it holds. The meticulously coded drawings of lithographic crayon on handmade paper combine principles of astronomy, mathematics, and topography. Simultaneously fantastical and mundane, the dense works spark viewers’ imaginative interpretations and intellectual ruminations.
