Gesso, watercolor concentrate, sealer on canvas, framed in waxed raw wood box frame.
In this body of work by Gittes, the iceberg celebrates the mystery of and relationship between existence before birth and after death. The tip of the iceberg that is above the surface represents the living, while the submerged portion of the iceberg represents the unborn. Over time, the living melt into the ocean, which represents the vastness and beauty of death and its inherent relationship to life, as water and ice have the same chemical makeup yet exist as separate forms.
