DESCRIPTION
Spray paint, acrylic on paper | 2020
The Davis Lake series of paintings was created while Kraus spent the summer of 2020 at his parents’ house in Northern Michigan, during lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kraus found peace and inspiration in nature, painting in the grass under the summer sun with the stillness of the lake in front of him. Using energetic strokes of spray paint, he depicts direct representations of the shadows cast onto the paper in bright hues, with a white overlay that erases while building depth. Through his abstract depictions of shadows, Kraus makes permanent the passage of time.
