DESCRIPTION
Colored pencil on paper | 2022
Bodega Veneta, the new original pencil drawing from Bella McGoldrick, marks a continuation of McGoldrick’s favored themes of hedonism and extravagance. The artist describes the piece as a “modern sculpture,” a meat market plastic bag from a butcher in Oaxaca, Mexico, teetering atop a current “it” brand Bottega Veneta box, both atop a glass of water. The artist describes the work as “a still life of 2022,” and begs the viewer to ask if the butcher bag now looks expensive when placed in the same composition as a designer box. Does it look clean, now that it is balanced on a crystal-clear glass of water? “Hello again, good friend of mine,” McGoldrick says, “the high low, the unstable and irrational pyramid of our intended perception of ourselves to the outside world.”
