"I was listening to a lot of Willie Nelson when I made this, and he has this line that says “in the arms of a nightmare.” Colorful subconscious dreamworlds of life on the plains. I wanted to make something that reflected a tough winter in North Dakota. Horses are present because 1) they are beautiful animals 2) because they’re spots have spiritual significance and 3) because the jaw bone of a horse is an incredible shape that can be used as a weapon or a tool. The black freckles across this piece are made of medicine."
