DESCRIPTION

Book "Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Rocks and Minerals I", borax | 2019

In her Crystallized Book series, Arnold explores the breadth of her materials — in this case, discarded books and magazines and chemically created crystals — to recontextualize her subjects. Instead of objects that signify moments of modern culture or literature, they become geological artifacts. Through this collection, she speaks to the evolution of print media into something nearly obsolete, a rare and rapidly forgotten commodity not unlike the gems she compares them to.

8.75 x 7.75 x 6 inches

AUTHENTICATION

The work comes with a certification of authenticity signed by the Co-Founder of Tappan

CARE/DISPLAY NOTE

Keeping the sculpture in a consistent climate with low humidity, normal to cool room temperature or cooler, and away from direct heat and sunlight will preserve the intended slow rate of change in color. Handling should be kept at a minimum. As part of the conceptual intent of the series, the crystallized books are intended to change in appearance over time. While the sculptural form of the book remains in tact, the crystals will gradually transform from translucent to opaque.
