Pigment ink transfer on canvas

Jeff Kraus continues to prove that extraordinary art can be created with everyday technologies. Davis Lake, a series of works that explores the artist’s personal relationship to location, memory, and time, was created when time seemed to stand still—during lockdown during the pandemic. In Davis Lake, digital panoramas collaged and glitched atop one another were then transferred onto canvas and panel, hinting at an impermanence where nature collapses against technology and new memories and landscapes are formed.

“Mistakes often become the final piece. I like to be surprised in the studio. Old works inform new works, along with failed attempts and piles of trashed material.”

About Davis Lake

Davis Lake explores a personal relationship to location, memory, and time through the use of everyday technologies such as an iPhone, a personal computer, and an inkjet printer. Digital panoramas collaged and glitched atop one another create a brief moment of stillness both familiar and foreign. In this impermanence, nature collapses against technology and new memories and landscapes are formed.
