Terra is a series that explores human memory in relation to our changing and dissolving relationship with the natural world. By juxtaposing natural pigments and fluid inks on a synthetic polypropylene surface, Alison Cooley reflects both organic and decidedly man-made components. The repetition of organic shapes puts emphasis on the relentless continuity of nature. Other markings, including intertwined bubbles and text-like passages weave in human activity.

TAPPAN GIVES TO FACING HISTORY

This 4th of July we’re reflecting on how to bring America together through acknowledgement and education. Artists have always had a way of expressing the past that helps us understand much more than what most history books reflect. Outside of representation, we want to work toward a more inclusive future by donating 10% of proceeds to Facing History, a non-profit that helps educators create curriculum that circles around helping students gain the skills to be empathetic members of society who are civically engaged. Until July 8th consider supporting our emerging artists and educators working to get students involved in their communities. Giveback runs June 30 - July 8.
