Cooley continues the body of work she began during her Tappan residency in Los Angeles in March 2020, entitled Perenne. Referencing the perennial qualities found in the natural world to continually grow, as well as the human drive to persist and endure, these timely works were created in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic where we have continuously been confronted with our will to persevere. Utilizing organic, flowing gestures, Cooley’s amorphous, tonal ink forms reference the beautiful, yet relentless, repetitive cycles of nature we are all part of.
