DESCRIPTION
Acrylic on Belgian linen | 2021
In the ongoing “Connected Events” series, Sepideh Ilsley distills emotions into abstract forms. Her creative process is one of catharsis; she makes digital sketches in a stream of consciousness manner until she’s visually addressed everything she wants to express. Ilsley pairs down these drawings until only the essence of each form remains. The minimal shapes are translated into paintings of acrylic on linen, where the artist’s hand introduces organic, imperfect qualities. Ilsley hopes that each work inspires viewers to create their own narratives, and ponder the relationship between the works’ poetic titles and pared down forms.

Q. Where do you draw inspiration from?
A. I see life and art as the same being; intertwined, imperfect and real. I see inspiration everywhere and in everything, you just have to look. In thoughts, ideas, feelings, memories, experiences, past and future.
