DESCRIPTION
Acrylic, Mix Medium, Charcoal, Soft Pastel on Canvas with an Oak Italian Frame | 2021
Sara Marlowe Hall spent a month living in Barreiro, Portugal while in residence at PADA. In that ghostlike town, the artist spent her time living and working in the factory quarters of Barreiro. During her daily walks along the river, the artist would watch the sky change and the stacked city of Lisbon reflected across the waters. There was a dreamlike feel during this time of day, that time would feel almost romantic. The harsh concrete structures surrounded by the water, rising up with rough textures, inspired this series. Almost brutalist, these paintings and works on paper explore soft moments in contrast with these dark lines, outlining these diverse elements of the town.
