I Can't Wait To Be With You Forever XIV
DESCRIPTION
Acrylic on canvas | 2019
A playful use of materials is a common thread throughout Caflisch’s breadth of work, and in this series, he does so by juxtaposing his raw canvas as a foundation and his broad, saturated swaths of color. The paintings, which stem from film photographs and sketches, therefore teeter between looseness and structure, toying with what constitutes formality and finish.

“...still constantly remind myself of H.D. Thoreau’s quote “rather than love, than money, than fame; give me truth.” I think this is a crucial mentality to have as an artist, and any other profession; that success, by any definition, will be found in making honest work.”

“...WE WERE REALLY LOOKING FOR PIECES THAT SPOKE TO US AND MADE US PAUSE FOR A MOMENT TO ABSORB, APPRECIATE, AND REFLECT. CAFLISCH'S ART ABSOLUTELY HAD THAT EFFECT ON US.”
