DESCRIPTION

Oil on synthetic canvas | 2018

Informed by combining readymade graphic and architectural iconography with found imagery from a book mapping ancient Aegean caves that Granade was studying at the time, this painting is based on drawings and watercolors that he created while at home on paternity leave after the birth of his first daughter. Granade intertwines an almost digital, sleek sharpness with abstract gestural brushstrokes, creating a cacophony of symbols and layers ripe for unpacking.

“My interests lie in the disconnect between reality and our perception thereof.”“Each portrait is an adventure, exploring the unique character and personal strengths of my subjects. It’s not about how they look, it’s about who they are.”
